Get to Know Us
In October 1982, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church invited all churches in the Staunton and Augusta County area to a meeting to discuss the possibility of combining resources to aid our neighbors with financial needs. They felt a centralized and coordinated effort would be more effective, could optimize the use of funds available and serve more people.

In response, Staunton-Augusta Church Relief Association (SACRA) was formed, with a Board of Stewards leading the group. Currently the Board is composed of 12 Stewards from participating groups, 9 of them elected from different denominations.
SACRA is staffed by volunteers with financial support coming from congregations, individuals and other like-minded organizations. They meet the immediate needs of Staunton and Augusta County community members to help them avoid eviction, keep their utilities on, have some healthy food in their homes, and provide a limited amount of transportation on the bus system.
