SACRA Services
Utilities
SACRA works with Dominion, Shenandoah Valley Electric Corporation, Quarles and other service providers to assist with payment for bills including electric, water/sewer, propane, fuel and other expenses. Payment is made directly to the service provider with counseling assistance to the client on budgeting and ways to manage the cost of utilities.

SACRA will help a household with utilities when there is a notice of disconnection.
​
SACRA will also help families that need a delivery of propane when it is their main heating or cooking source. There is generally no notice associated with this service.
​
Applicants for help will be expected to reach out to other agencies for help and if they have funds to pay part of the payment.

Rent
SACRA will help with past due amount on rent for clients who have a legal eviction notice. In the case of subsidized housing, a 5 day pay or quit notice is sufficient.

SACRA does not help with:

Rent when there is no eviction notice

Deposits on rental property

Hotel/motel expenses

Mortgage payments
-
Rent when the landlord is also a client

Client must provide SACRA with an eviction notice and a current copy of a signed rental agreement.
​
SACRA will call the landlord or rental agency to negotiate the lowest amount that can be paid toward the past due balance.

Food
SACRA partners with the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. We distribute food from the food bank and from donations and what is available varies. We also distribute some household items. Food assistance is limited to once every thirty days.

You must live in Staunton or Augusta County. We do not serve the city of Waynesboro. It is served by both HERO (Housing Emergency Relief Organization) at www.herowaynesboro.org and the Waynesboro Salvation Army (540) 943-7591

Financial help from SACRA is generally below $300

If you are eligible, you may request assistance every 6 months

You are eligible for food assistance every 30 days

SACRA does not pay hotel/motel eviction notices

SACRA sees clients by appointments on Tuesday and Wednesday
​
Please bring you ID and any other documentation that is requested based on what you are asking for.
​
We ask that you come prepared to make any contributions that you can to the bill that you are requesting help with. This allows us to meet the needs of as many people as possible.
​
Payments are made directly to the company, landlord or pharmacy, with payments usually made or arranged on the same day as the appointment if approved.
